Stream flow reduction activities
Land-based
activities which reduce stream flow can be declared stream flow
reduction activities (after public consultation). This depends on
various factors such as the extent of stream flow reduction, its
duration, its impact on any relevant water resource and on other water
users (i.e. the control of forestry for its impact on water resources).
Any activity that is
likely to reduce the availability of water in a water course to the
Reserve, to meet international obligations or to other water users
significantly, is a stream flow reduction activity.
Afforestation is specifically declared a stream flow reduction activity in the Act.
